On January 10th, 2018, the Navajo County Fair Board, Inc., held its annual meeting. During the annual elections of the Board of Directors, residents of Navajo County voted to retain current board members Heather Scott, Paul Van Zelf, Bill Elkins, J. R. DeSpain, Jeremy Browning, and Rusty DeSpain, whose seats were up for re-election. Mr. Clark Jones of Snowflake was also elected to fill a vacant position on the board, which was also up for re-election. Also during the annual meeting, the Board of Directors voted to re-elect myself, Mike Sample of Holbrook as President; Rusty DeSpain of Joseph City as Vice-President; and elected Marshall Losey of Winslow as Secretary and Anna Amos of Pinetop-Lakeside as Treasurer.
During the regular meeting for January immediately following the annual meeting, the 2018 fair was discussed. The theme for this year’s fair is “One Great County, One Great Fair.” A variety of events are in the works for this year’s fair, which include the demolition derby and the best rodeo in the state along with several other fun events and a large plethora of entertainment. After reviewing the possible cuts in the fair’s budget, it was determined it would in the best interest of the fair to conclude this year’s fair at midnight on Saturday, September 15th, and not hold any events on Sunday other than the carnival. A unanimous vote was taken to not have any events on Sunday, with the exception of the carnival.
The Navajo County Fair Board strives to make this fair one of the best county fairs in the state. We will continue to work hard to plan great events and entertainment for our residents to enjoy and thank all that attend, volunteer, and support the fair.
Thank you for your support,
Navajo County Fair Board President
